Mid-term Assessment of BBfor2 Project

On a break at the mid-term assessment meeting.

The mid-term assessment of BBfor2 project went smoothly, almost without incident. We were so happy that the assessor was also happy with our works and progress. We have still a half-way to go...

Winter Workshop on Bayesian Biometrics for Forensics

Posing with all fellows and supervisors in the BBfor2 project.

Even though the workshop was only lasting for 1 day, we had a lot of interesting talks in the session. Ranging from automatic face recognition system for forensic biometrics, until Bayesian interpretation of forensic evidence and likelihood ratio calibration. Besides all those interesting talks, the venue itself was amazing. The workshop was taken place in Martigny, Switzerland, where we can see Mount-Blanc outside the window.

Presentation at Interspeech Conference 2011

A picture of me when presenting my work at the Interspeech 2011 conference in Florence, Italy.

In Interspeech 2011, that was my first time presenting a paper in an international conference after I started my PhD study. The tittle of my paper for this conference is "Evaluation of i-vector Speaker Recognition Systems for Forensic Application".

Was I nervous? Yes, a hundred percent. I had 15 minutes to present my paper, but it turns out that I finished it only in 10 minutes. That was too fast. After my presentation, I had a discussion with the chairman. He told me, "It is wonderful to have someone trying to use automatic speaker recognition technology for real world case (forensics).". I am really happy to hear his comment at that time. It became one of my motivation on doing my research since then.

Presentation at IAFPA conference 2011

The IAFPA 2011 conference venue, Bundeskriminalamt Wien, Austria.
In this conference, I presented my work that is titled "Speaker line-up calibration of the i-vector based speaker recognition system for forensic application". This was my first time joining the annual conference held by IAFPA. Attending this conference has widen my network to the experts and practitioners in the forensic speaker recognition field internationally.

BBfor2 Summer School in Forensic Speech Analysis

Posing with all the fellows and supervisors in the BBfor2 network in this summer school in York, UK.
This year summer school for the BBfor2 network has been a blast. Accompanied by sunny days in York, we had a set of courses and experiments related to forensic speech analysis based on the phonetic and acoustic properties of speech signal.

Computational Forensic Seminar

The seminar place, TU/e in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
Besides we have one winter meeting and workshop this year, we also have WIC midwinter meeting for the BBfor2 network. In this midwinter meeting we have a seminar about computational forensic in general.

BBfor2 Winter Workshop: Forensic Aspects of Biometrics, An Introduction to Criminalistics

Posing with the fellows and supervisors from the BBfor2 project in front of Netherlands Forensic Institute in The Hague.
Personally, this is my first time meeting with fellows from other sites inside the BBfor2 network. It was an exciting experience and a starting point for networking and friendship among fellows. In this meeting the fellows had opportunities to learn more about forensic aspects of biometrics. Taken place at the Netherlands Forensic Institute as one of the leader institutions on forensic science, we even had a chance to solve a typical criminal cases by playing detective role in finding evidences and traces from an artificial crime scene.
